Hackberry is one tough tree. It adapts to a wide variety of soils, can tolerate heat, drought, salt spray, wind, ice, and even short term flooding. It provides nice yellow fall colour and sports purple berries in winter. It's shape is variable depending on where it's grown. It will grow tall if there is competition for light, and it will grow wide if there is space.
